Family Office Controller (Real Estate/Homebuilding) – South Burlington, VT
A premier, multi-generational family office in South Burlington, VT is looking for an experienced Controller to oversee corporate, portfolio, and development project accounting, as well as some accounting for family shareholders. A hybrid in-person work schedule may be considered, with an expectation of at least 3 full days in the office. The role will report to the CFO, with some oversight by the CEO. The Controller will interact with the Board of Directors on at least a quarterly basis.
The Controller will manage the accounting, financial reporting, treasury, cash forecasting, budget preparation, and tax return preparation for several real estate-owning entities, including a large, high profile, and ongoing mixed-use project in South Burlington, VT, currently in the residential phase. The Controller will protect and preserve the assets of the Company, ensure that all receipts due to the Company are collected on an accurate and timely basis, and ensure that all financial obligations of the Company are met in full and on time. The role requires a proactive manager of the utmost integrity that will oversee a small team of accounting professionals. A strong sense of urgency is required as is the ability to expertly communicate business concepts and financial results.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Accurate and timely reporting of the books and records for the Company, the real estate holdings, and ongoing Development activities.
- Ensuring accurate and timely filing of federal, state, and local income tax returns and other business-related filings such as those related to HUD/Section 8 compliance.
- Work with outside CPA firm to perform year-end compilations.
- Protect assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing sound internal controls.
- Review insurance policies and make recommendations to enhance overall coverage.
- Preparation of investment performance, valuations, and expense analysis.
- Manage interaction with banks, tax advisors, attorneys and other outside consultants.
- Assist with various planning functions including cash flow management with a predominant focus on the establishment of prudent distribution levels.
- Administer treasury functions.
- Prepare monthly financial presentation packages.
- Manage third party payroll, HR and IT service providers.
- Special projects and additional duties, as assigned.
Experience/Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting.
- Minimum 8-10 years of progressive financial management experience. Experience with a real estate investment/development company, a single-family office, or from a CPA firm servicing real estate related clients is a plus.
- Master’s Degree in a business discipline and/or CPA preferred, but not required.
- Must demonstrate aptitude to gain solid working knowledge of Yardi and Excel.
- Experience working in a multi-departmental company.

Facilities Technician – Burlington/South Burlington, VT

We are seeking a skilled and dependable Facilities Technician to join our team. Our portfolio encompasses a six mile radius within Burlington and South Burlington. As a Facilities Technician, the successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and repairing various systems within our residential and commercial facilities to ensure a safe and comfortable living environment for our residents and tenants. This includes performing routine inspections, troubleshooting issues as they arise, and completing necessary repairs in a timely manner. Additionally, you will be expected to respond promptly to maintenance requests and work orders and work collaboratively with other team members to address any and all facility-related concerns.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine inspections of residential facilities to identify maintenance needs
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from residents and address issues in a timely manner
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and report any major issues to management
- Collaborate with other team members to prioritize and complete maintenance tasks efficiently
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Rotating after hours on-call shifts shared with other Facilities Technicians
Requirements:
- High school diploma, trade school certificate, or equivalent
- Proven experience in residential and/or commercial maintenance or a related field
- Excellent critical thinking skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Effective communication and people skills
- Physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor as needed
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- A courteous and professional manner
